1. Gulf War, 1991
The Gulf War Oil Spill on January, 23, 1991 was the largest oil spills in history. The oil which spills is was caused by United States’ coalition against Iraq in response Iraq’s invasion and annexation of the State of Kuwait.
2. Ixtoc 1 Oil Well 1979
The Ixtoc 1 Oil Well Oil Spill was an accident caused by a Mexico’s government-oil company, Pemex. It happened on June 3, 1979 because the mud circulation has drilled the ocean and made it polluted by mud.
3. Atlantic Empress 1979
The Atlantic Empress was a Greek oil tanker involved in two large oil spills. The spilling oil happened because the tanker’s collision with other tankers and also caused more than 41 million gallons of crude oils spilled in the sea.
4. Fergana Valley 1992
The Fergana Valley Oil Spill happened in March 2, 1992 and caused the oil coming out to field of Mingbulak, Uzbekistan. The spilling oil has damaged in the release of 35,000 barrels per day. The field itself was caught and burnt for two months.
5. Nowruz Oil Field 1983
The Nowruz Oil Field Oil Spill was caused by a tanker’s collision with a platform. The spilling oil happened in March 1983 and cause eleven people killed during the evacuation.
6. ABT Summer 1991
The ABT Summer, a tanker with fully laden heavy crude oil, experienced an explosion and a fire in the coast of Angola. The explosion happened on May 28, 1991 and made 5 of the 32 crew members died on board as a result of the incident.
7. Castillo de Bellver 1983
The Castillo de Bellver, a ship carrying 252,000 tones of light crude oil, was crashed during its journey to Benguela, South Africa on August 6, 1983. The ship drifted in shore and broke in two, caused about 70 miles away, near Cape Town.
8. Amoco Cadiz 1978
The Amoco Cadiz, a very large crude carrier, ran aground on Portsall Rocks from the coast of Brittany, France. On March 1978, it experienced an incident in the sea and sank, spilling about 1.6 million barrels of oil, making it the largest oil spill history to the date.
9. Odyssey Oil Spill 1988
The Odyssey, an oil tanker operated from 1971 to 1988, experienced an explosion and caused it to sink in the North Atlantic off the coast of Canada. Because of the explosion, it spills 43 millions of oil into the ocean.
10. M/T Haven Tanker 1991
The MT Haven, a large crude carrier, was leased to Troodos Shiping in 1990. A year later, while loaded 1 million barrels of crude oil, the carrier exploded and sank off the coast of Genoa, Italy, and caused six crews died on board.
